Bio:
Golden Animals moved back to Brooklyn with over 100 as yet unreleased songs added to their catalog. They formed out of a mutual love for a sonic current that can be traced from blues to psychedelic rock and into garage & grunge.
They moved west by van to the desert in California where they'd spend most of the next 3 years in seclusion among the rattlesnakes and scorpions, beneath the mad suns and glowing moons.
The forgotten parts of Southern California provided a limitless canvas of endless space for them to form their atlas of sounds and ideas. Without noise restrictions and little or no rent to be paid, they found a way to spend most of their time writing songs and living like nomads moving from vacant home to vacant home as "house-sitters", where they could set up their gear and play loud into the night.
The other half of their time was spent on the road playing shows, living out of their van and touring extensively throughout the West Coast, US and UK. The duo is currently living in Brooklyn and performing in the New York area.
Review: New York Magazine *****
Early last year, when one of Beecroft's modeling jobs took the couple to Los Angeles, they decided the West Coast would be more amenable to their oldfangled music and look. "After we got a Social Media" says Eisner, "a lot of people getting in touch were from Southern California." Following one last-gasp show in Williamsburg—only two dozen people showed up—they packed up their van. The couple wound up house-sitting for Gordon Kennedy, who had penned a history of the roots of hippie culture. His isolated desert home was the perfect petri dish for their new children-of-the-sixties sound.
Much like Golden Animals' attire, Free Your Mind & Win a Pony can be contrived, and one wonders whether Eisner will someday be embarrassed by this phase in his career. But the album resides in its own deranged universe, and he sounds utterly sincere when he says of their relocation, "Our attitude changed because of our environment … We were ready for something like this." As for his return to the city that spurned him, he has few expectations: "We have no idea who'll show up." At the very least, he and Beecroft are guaranteed to be paid this time. And that, he says, "is a real evolution."
Can we listen to their music:
Sure.. We recently streamed their video Queen Mary on OrajinLIVE.. Our Live Streaming Platform.. A tune which has become one of my favourite Session-esqe videos throughout our musical journey.. It simply has everything..
When you consider how basic the set up is too.. A guitar.. Some drums & a couple of microphones.. The result.. An immense tune that should be talked about in music folklore.
You can listen to another track.. 'Darkness & Light'. From the album.. 'Free Your Mind & Win A Pony' below
